(#5) Plant Something: Aunt Jen and family gave Clayton an Elmo tomato seed planting kit! Clayton loved planting the seeds, watering them, and watching them grow. His favorite part was picking the red ones and eating them!!!! (#3) Make our own popsicles: Clayton enjoyed making grape & apple juice popsicles!

I knew Neal would be a great dad when...
we were on our honeymoon in Hawaii and he was so intrigued by the sand crabs. Complete kid pose down on the sand with his behind in the air! Clayton & Hallie are so lucky to have such a fun dada who is always ready to play with them! Lucky for Neal he can still see the world with his "child eyes" on!

Hallie was cooing like crazy during her 4 month well baby appointment. She is doing great and is "catching up" to where she would be if she was born on her due date.
Clayton wanted his turn to get on the table and said he wanted shots too. Yeah right, I could barely hold him down at his last appointment for shots! He really just wanted a SUCKER!
Last night 6/10/10 our little doodle bug belly laughed for the first time. I poured a cup of water over her and she could see me and herself in the mirror and that's what made her laugh!!! Of course, by the time Neal could run down to get the video camera she was over it. She really knows how to make up for pooping all over me in the baby bjorn at the grocery! Hallie's laugh was the most precious sound!

So Hallie is comparable to Clayton at 2 months old. Clayton weighed 7 ounces more at 2 months, but was the exact same length. Hallie seems like a little chunk to me, but she's still our tiny baby!

Dear Clayton,
As I write this note you are sound asleep in your bed probably dreaming of fixing something with your new power drill from daddy, building the longest Thomas choo choo ever, or playing race cars with Lightning McQueen and Mater. You are really into the birthday thing this year and it it soooo cute. You sang Happy Birthday tonight and were so excited to give your friends at school their treat bags! Your teachers had the classroom decorated with streamers and they painted Happy Birthday Clayton signs. As soon as you walked in you noticed the b-day hats and had to put one on right away. Tonight for dessert I made you cookies decorated like Cookie Monster. Daddy had to help you blow out your candle. Papa and Gigi came over to celebrate with you! Daddy and I have been busy getting ready for your party this weekend. I know you are going to love having your friends and family over!
You are quite the talker...not shy at all! Your newest thing is to ask, "Is that?" And I follow with "What is that?" and you repeat me. You want to know what everything is...even if you already know! Before bedtime you will say, "5 more minutes", even though you have no concept of time. You finally say you are "2 years old" when asked instead of saying "peace" since Nana taught you the peace sign. :) I am amazed at all the words you know and sentences you say. I love hearing you say, "Be careful Mama!"
You LOVE your baby sister and you are very gentle with her...unless you're tired. Then, you start poking her and getting really close to her. You LOVE books and right now your favorites are Disney Cars books, There's a Wocket in My Pocket, and any book about dump trucks and diggers! You have memorized many of your books and can finish the sentences in the books that rhyme. You can sing your ABC's when you want to! Your favorite songs are "Clayton's Song" (Old McClayton had a farm) and Ballgame otherwise known as Dada's song.
I could write about you for hours... Daddy and I love you very much, Clayton. You make every day so much more fun! I can't wait to come in your room tomorrow morning to find you hanging out in your bed reading a book... saying "Good Morning, Mama."

Hallie is still a sleepy baby...well during the day at least! Little by little she's keeping her eyes open in the daylight as I am hoping and praying for a longer stretch of sleep at night!
I had the chance to see what it might be like to have a night time nurse because Nana (my mom) spent the night to watch the kids while we were at the BU game. I heard Hallie crying at 6 a.m. so I zombie walked into her room only to realize she wasn't in her crib. I went downstairs and my mom was feeding her a bottle...I could get used to that! But really I do enjoy the QUIET moments I have with Hallie in the middle of the night, just not the moments when I put her in her crib and she either spits up or gets noisy... Time really does fly though and I'm sure she'll be sleeping through the night before I know it.
April 6th (her 2 month b-day) she smiled at her daddy!!! I am so happy Neal was the first to get a "real" smile since he was out of town for work and missed Clayton's first smile. I think Hallie knew her daddy was still a little disappointed in the heartbreak loss of our beloved Butler Bulldogs so she thought she'd make him smile with her cute little dimpled smile. :-)

Hallie did just fine getting her shots today. She did cry loudly, but got over it quickly and fell asleep. Clayton was very good at our doc visit. He said hi to Dr. Evard and enjoyed his fruit snacks and goldfish...and of course his backpack filled with Thomas the Train choo choos!
Home, SWEET, home! We are so happy to have our family all under one roof! We brought Hallie home on Thursday, February 18. We put Hallie in the bouncy seat and set up the video camera so we could capture the first brother/sister moment! Neal went to TOTs to pick up Clayton and we led him into the family room...
Clayton wanted Hallie to see his toys so he would put different things next to her. Already sharing...that's a good sign, and probably the last time it's that easy! Clayton kept calling her "funny baby" and sister. He wanted to touch her and he loves giving her kisses on her head.
Today Hallie is 1 week old. She had a lot of visitors today and received so many soft blankies and cute little outfits. Today was a harder day for her. She just kept falling asleep when she was supposed to eat...and she has to eat in order to come home. She just didn't nurse as well as she did yesterday, but at least she drank the bottle. Neal and I are really starting to feel the stress with not having our family all together. Anytime I start to think about it, I feel overwhelmed and could cry at the drop of a hat. I know this is normal with everything going on in my body after surgery, breast feeding, and just all the crazy hormones. I just can't believe once again we didn't get to bring our baby home after 2 days in the hospital. I just don't understand.
I did a lot of snuggling with Clayton when I got home from the hospital because he was really missing me today and I was missing him, too. We put Clayton to sleep in his big boy bed tonight. Hopefully he doesn't freak out when he wakes up in the morning. It took him quite a while to fall asleep, but he finally did. He had 2 elmos, cookie, a Butler monkey, a Butler Bulldog, a doggie, brown bear, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few more all in his bed keeping him cozy. Good thing he has a full size bed so they can all fit. I just can't wait for him to meet his baby sis!
Clayton can't be in this family pic because under 18 year olds aren't allowed in the NICU and dogs aren't either. :) We can now hold our love bug, Hallie, whenever we want so we are happy and so is she! She has had a great couple of days and is now in a bassinet which is much less intimidating than the other bed. They lowered the vapotherm from 3 liters per minute to 2 and she did great today! The family life specialists had a lunch for the NICU moms and we got to make valentine bags for our babies. I so needed this. It helped take my mind off things for a little while. We are just so lucky to be at such a great hospital with such caring people all around us. Poor Clayton is sick. I just hate it because I can't be home with him and with Hallie at the same time. It's hard to be away from either one of my babies. Thankfully super dad, Neal, is taking such great care of Clayton. And we have the best parents in the world ready and willing to do whatever we ask. Clayton has been spending some special time with his grandparents!
It was so wonderful to walk into Hallie's room this morning and actually see her beautiful face. She was off of the cpap and doing quite well breathing with the vapotherm. I was able to see her without the vapotherm once already, but them they put her back on it, but I really think this time she's done with the mask for good! She was dressed and swaddled in a comfy wrap and just looked so peaceful. Her hat was even off so I can see her hair. I've just been hanging out with her in her room today. At 6:00 I get to hold her while she eats (still through the tube). I've been pumping and my milk seems to be coming in so any little bit we feed her through the tube. She has done a great job keeping her food down for the last two days.
Hallie got to see her aunt kristen today because she had her ultrasound for her little peanut. I know what she's having, but can't announce it yet until I'm sure she's spread the word. We are just so excited for Hallie to have a new cousin to go along with her other 3! Kristen belly is finally looking like there's a baby in there and she looks adorable! Congrats Kristen and Josh. You have so much to look forward to.
Neal and Clayton are coming around 5:30 and I can't wait! I miss my little wild guy! He has been so good without me around. I was a little nervous since he tends to be a mama's boy. I sure hope he's not already outgrowing that. As long as he has his pancakes and oat"neal" ready right when he wakes up...he's a pretty happy boy! :)
I hear he's been playing basketball a lot at home! It's so cute to see his reaction when he dunks!

My water broke on Friday evening about 7:00 p.m. (complete shocker!) and Neal and I made our way to the hospital. At first, we weren't sure if they were going to induce me since I still had 5 weeks to go or if they were going to see how things progressed naturally. At this point I was only dilated 1 cm and my cervix was very thick. On Saturday morning my doc decided to begin Pitocin to get labor started. I was feeling really great still and I was having contractions, but they weren't close together.
Neal and I started playing cards not knowing how long we'd be waiting on our sweetpea to arrive. Around noon Hallie's heart rate was dropping whenever I was having a contraction. After lying down and trying to find a new position that Hallie liked better, the nurse came in within 5 minutes because she was not improving. She checked me only to find that it wasn't Hallie's head, but her umbilical cord that she was feeling. Basically the nurse never let go from holding the umbilical cord and quickly called for nurses to rush us to the OR for an emergency c-section. This all happened really fast. They did put me all the way out and got Hallie out just in time. As they began the surgery they realized that the umbilical cord was attached "by a thread" and instead of being attached to the placenta the cord was exposed and attached to the bag of water. (I'm sure I'll understand that later when I get a full explanation, I might not be 100% accurate with how the cord was attached.) The cord could have torn easily had I continued with labor which could have been fatal. Very scary to hear that, but I am so thankful the nurse caught things and didn't waste any time.
Hallie is in the NICU since she is early. She weighed 4 lbs and 12 oz and is 18 inches long, so she is small but not too tiny. To us she seems itty bitty since Clayton was almost double her weight at birth. The pain is getting so much better for me today! Today I will get to spend a lot of time in the NICU with Hallie. She isn't eating well yet...she is being fed from a tube and spitting up a little too much so we'll see how she does today. As of last night she is still dealing with Respiratory distress so they put her back on the C-PAP (a tiny little mask like thing to help her breathe). She was just having to work way too hard with only the nose canula. I'll keep you posted, but the doctor thinks today she'll be doing much better.
She is precious and a miracle. We are so thankful my water broke and she is here with us. Pictures to come!

READY OR NOT, HERE I COME!
Neal and I arrived at Clarion North Friday, 2/5 after my water broke at 7:00 p.m. I was caught off guard...so not prepared. Wasn't I supposed to have 5 more weeks to get my life/work organized?! And seriously...could we have any more snow? Not much is going on right now...we haven't seen the doc yet this morning, but we are anxiously waiting to hear if they will induce me or if we will have to wait to see how I progress on my own. I just don't want to be stuck in the hospital!!!!
We are so excited to meet our sweet little girl! I can't wait to see who she looks like. I am missing Clayton so much right now and can't wait until he gets to meet his little sis!

Neal has been working hard on finishing Clayton's big boy room so we can make the switch with plenty of time before Hallie arrives. It is now painted a relaxing shade of blue and his furniture is in! I can't wait to get the decor up on the walls...and find a few other surprises for the little guy so he is so excited to make the move.
Clayton has done a great job sleeping in his "toddler bed" lately ever since he climbed out of the crib. He's talking so much and is active as ever! Last night he requested pancakes for dinner...how could I say no?

I've been feeling really great lately...until I did something to my back on Tuesday morning picking up Clayton. I am hoping the tylenol and ice packs will do their job and I won't have to visit the doc about it. We'll see.
Clayton and I went shopping to get Hallie some stuff for her new bedroom. Neal will be painting her room soon! I can't wait! I'll share pics of both the new rooms when they are finished!
Before heading out to our Thanksgiving gatherings we opened the "envelope". I was completely surprised because I just really thought we were having a boy. Neal thought girl all along...and he was right. I am so excited for headbands and bows and pig tails and french braids (once she has enough hair) and dresses and tutus...
I think Clayton will be a great big brother to his little sis!
Clayton had a great time handing out candy to the trick or treaters! He was the cutest little lion! Most of the time he'll even ROARRR when we ask him what a lion says.
On Friday, we had our 20 week ultrasound to see our new little peanut. This little one was much calmer than Clayton during his ultrasound. Clayton was flipping around the whole time. Everything looks great and baby seems to be relaxing... all stretched out with his/her legs crossed at the ankles! :)
We are trying to decide when to open the envelope to reveal if baby W. is a boy or girl....right now the envelope is sealed and sitting in our kitchen cabinet.

I've been meaning to post these pictures. One day this summer a little girl from my 2nd grade class came over to the house to "babysit" Clayton so I could get some unpacking done. My favorite picture is the one where AB is reading to Clayton...a precious moment since all last year she was working on her reading skills with me. Clayton loved listening to her read, eating lunch with her, and playing in the water! Until I looked at these pictures I forgot how long & curly Clayton's hair was...

Clayton was a champ at his dr. appt. today! He was soooo good. He kept showing the doc his cracker and saying cracker, cracker...too cute. I was nervous about his shots since he would be more aware of what the nurse was doing to him as I was holding him down. Shot 1 in the leg...didn't even flinch. Shot 2 in the other leg...let out a 2 second cry and was done. AMAZING!

Nana babysat the other day and now Clayton makes a monkey sound...she likes calling and making the sound on the phone for him to hear.

What have I been doing? Not blogging. Instead of posting on the blog I've been writing little notes to myself on my calendar so when I had "time to blog" I would remember all the milestones. Summer's here...so now I can blog, and stay in PJ's till whenever I feel like it, not shower at night, take walks with Clayton during the day, and just do whatever we want! I LOVE SUMMER!

April 5-12 Spring Break: First trip to Destin, Florida with Anne, Chad, & Nolan. Clayton eats everything (many firsts on this trip): grilled cheese, mac & cheese, grouper, fish sticks, hush puppies, spaghetti, grilled chicken, scrambled eggs, pancakes. Clayton took 9 steps in the Destin House. We really thought he'd be walking like crazy after watching his buddy Nolan. Clayton loved the sand and the water. Still trying to put everything in his mouth. He loved the beach and took a few naps out there giving Neal and I some time to relax.
April 16th Clayton's newest cousin Kane Zachariah Thompson was born. Pictures to come!

Words he could say at the start of June: door, truck, turtle, ball, ba-ba (baby), that, bird, grandma (he said it once or twice, I promise), da-da, ma-ma, yum, dog, hah, nana. His teachers at TOTS tell me he says night-night, but I've yet to hear it.
Neal and I both had Presidents' Day off so we took Clayton to get his first haircut. The mullet was getting a little crazy so we thought it was time. He sat in a little red car while Baby Einstein was on TV. Neither of those things distracted him from what was going on. He was very good...it was just hard to keep him sitting in the car. I was a little nervous that the lady was going to cut his ear...but he left with a big boy haircut and no ouchies.
Lots of snow means SNOW DAYS! I just love it when I get the call that school is cancelled. Clayton's 1st time sledding only lasted a few minutes, but totally worth it! Thanks G-ma and G-pa Walther for the sled! Neal pulled Clayton around the front yard. He was all smiles until we laid him down in the snow and then Peyton jumped right next to him...snow went all over the little guy's face.
Congrats to the newly engaged couple! Well, they've been engaged for a couple months now. It happened over Christmas break. Clayton can't wait for Brandon to be his uncle!! We love you both!
Clayton's first Christmas came and went soooo fast. On Christmas Eve we went to Clayton's Great-Nana's house and then headed to Great-gm Nita's house. On Christmas morning we opened presents at home and then headed to Grandma & Grandpa Walther's house...then we were off to Great G-ma & G-pa Leverenz house...and then to the Lux family Christmas with Great G-pa Lux. The Saturday following Christmas we went to Clayton's Nana's house for Christmas. We were spoiled with all kinds of exciting gifts. Thanks everyone!
Nolan came over to play with Clayton and to exchange Christmas gifts. Nolan gave Clayton a CD...one of Nolan's favorite and Clayton gave Nolan a new book. Thanks for the CD! It's been in our car ever since. Clayton and I listen to it on the way to school every day! I find myself singing along.
The boys had fun with the wrappings and then Nolan spotted a jingle bell wreath on the floor. He picked it up to play with it and Clayton started crying. Apparently Clayton wanted to play with the jingle bell...sensitive little guy. Anne and I were cracking up. They've had a few encounters with sharing where they both are grabbing on to the toy white knuckled not ready to let go! :)
This is my attempt at keeping up to date with the blog. So get ready for a few posts in a row! Hopefully from this point forward I'll actually post as things happen...instead of a month later!
Neal and I took Clayton to see Santa at Clay Terrace. No line at all! Clayton was just staring at Santa. He didn't seem to mind sitting on his lap! So far he's not scared of people dressed up...Butler Bulldog Mascot & Santa.
We packed up the car and headed to Columbus to visit The Rieck's and go to the BU vs. OSU basketball game. We try to take a road trip every year to watch the bulldogs play. It worked out perfectly to go see Jenny, David, Gavin, & Kramer! We miss them so much. David got a new job at OSU so they now live in Columbus. Clayton loved playing with all of Gavin's toys...I got lots of ideas for Christmas! Clayton and Gavin were so good at the game even though it was right at lunch & naptime! The bulldog mascot came over to see the boys. Clayton loved him, Gavin wasn't so sure. I just love the picture above of Neal, David, & the little boys! Check out the colors... Blue vs. Red! Like father, like son...
Clayton's 6th month post is a little overdue! After his first tooth showed up the one right next to it decided to pop out so now he has his two front teeth...on the bottom! I think two more on the bottom will be making an appearance any time. At 5 1/2 months Clayton was sitting by himself without falling over. He likes to sit up, grab his toes, and put them in his mouth. EVERYTHING goes in his mouth. We also began feeding Clayton solids. We started with rice cereal then...oatmeal, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, squash, he likes it all. His favorites so far are green beans and squash. Fruit will be coming soon. Clayton is still enjoying his "school". He has two friends now, Oliver and Connor. Clayton loves playing with them and laughs at them all the time. Since the weather's getting colder they take walks around the school building. Clayton loves looking at the aquariums in the science lab. I am SO thankful that he still gets to take stroller rides in the winter...and there is so much for him to look at being in an elementary building! He LOVES the rainforest jumperoo at his school. He jumps like crazy. He cracks up laughing all the time.

Last weekend (11/1) we took Clayton to his first Butler Basketball game...many more to come! We dressed him in his Butler gear and headed to the game! Neal was taking him out of his carseat to head in to Hinkle...and quickly realized that Clayton had a DIRTY diaper! AHHHHHHH! It was an evening game, so all I packed was a pair of PJ's so he had to wear his jammies to his first game! We were walking by the concession stand and this sweet older man got my attention... He handed me a half-dollar and told me it was for Clayton's piggy bank. 50 cents towards his college education!
Clayton was a chunky monkey for his first Halloween! I just love the banana hanging out of his pocket. On Friday to school, he wore his "Guess whooooo's 1st Halloween?" onesie along with his owl rattle slippers and owl hat. His "teacher" gave him a pumpkin bib and Halloween socks! Last weekend we went to Zoo Boo with Papa Hal, Jen, Ty, Ike, Abby, & Brandon so the boys were able to wear their costumes an extra time! After Zoo Boo we took Clayton to Debbie & Derrick's Hog Roast...that's where Clayton spent time with his "Great" Nana and also met a deer. :) The Salyer family came over this weekend so we HAD to dress the boys in their costumes for a photo op! Nolan is a kangaroo! He has a baby kangaroo in his pouch! Too cute.
Last weekend was my fall break! Neal and I took Clayton to Brown County. The weather was perfect. Enjoy the slideshow of pictures from our day. I really wanted some pics of Clayton sitting in the leaves. It didn't take long for him to try to put some leaves in his mouth! :) After the hike we went to Nashville to walk around and get some ice cream, of course. I don't think Clayton liked that fact that we ate our ice cream in front of him. Today rice cereal & oatmeal...tomorrow ice cream. Okay, not yet, but he is already 6 months old. Time flies! He'll be eating ice cream before we know it.
Last Friday (10/3), Clayton cut his first tooth! Symptoms: Lots of drooling and putting everything into his mouth! He had been waking up in the middle of the night leading up to the tooth breaking through! It just so happened that this corresponded with my first three days of going back to work. I just thought he was trying to get used to our new routine...I was wrong! He's back to sleeping through the night for now!!!! Clayton loves his teachers, Darlene & Carol, at TOTS! He has done a great job taking his bottles and also napping! I am so relieved! The anticipation leading up to going back to work was way worse than actually doing it. Don't get me wrong...it was and is hard to drop him off everyday! I just want to stay and play with him! But I know he is in good hands. Teaching has been great too! I was so excited to meet my kids and they were so happy to have me back! It's hard to be sad when you're around 23 smiling kiddos...the day flies by! They already know how to sidetrack me! One student noticed I had a collage of Clayton on my computer which shows up on the TV in our classroom. When they came back from P.E. they started asking about Clayton. So I had to show them Clayton's blog, of course. They love the pictures and can't wait for Clayton to come to school to meet them! I am always so anxious to pick him up at the end of day. I can't get there fast enough! I love being a mom and I love being a teacher. In my eyes...I have the two best jobs in the world.

Wednesday, October 1st was Clayton's first day of school so we had to get his 1st day pics! Man is it hard to get going when it's still dark outside!!!!! Clayton loves his teachers at TOTS! For those of you that don't know... my school district has a daycare for teachers' kids! Clayton and his buddy Oliver are the only infants in their room right now! I'll post later about the last few days of going back to work, but for now I'm exhausted and going to bed!!!!!
